CO0156 - off market
Originally built as a Saranac Lake institutional "Cure Cottage" for the less fortunate, by the wife of an early magnate to fulfill a promise. If she was cured of tuberculosis, she would build an institution to help the common people, who couldn't afford a private bed in an exclusive Cure Cottage, rid themselves of the terrible disease. This brick Federal style building was known as the Prescott House.
It later served as a college boarding house, and has been recently upgraded to offer three large apartments and 22 rental rooms with shared baths. The original maple stairwell is still in place, and the building today looks like it was just constructed! As a commercially zoned property, there are many possible uses for the new owner: College dorm, nursing home, institution, apartments, etc.
It would make a fabulous hotel, inn, restaurant or exceptional private mansion. The Cure Porches are fantastic and there are nice mountain views from the East side. You might be surprised at how private this property actually is, given its village setting. A very nice front lawn for recreation has recently been used for guests to enjoy concerts of chamber music performed from the balcony over the main entrance.
The building is set on 2.3 acres, hidden at the back of a dead end street, right in the Village of Saranac Lake. The way the property lies, the entrance road could be gated to make a very private estate.
There is town water and sewer and the total taxes are just under $7,400 per year.
