This small community lies in the "Heart of the Adirondacks, and spoke as the "Adirondack Wilderness Outpost".  The town encompasses  225.2 square miles with two of the 46'er mountains and offers year-round activities such as golf, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, many snow sports, hiking the Goodnow Fire Tower or Mt. Marcey.  It is a must to visit the Santanoni Preserve and the Vanderwhacker Wild Forest.  Newcomb was once claimed by the Iroquois and Algonquian tribes, and was settled by the whites around 1816.   The town officially was established in 1828, and it includes the hamlet of Tahawus Club.  Newcomb enjoys many bodies of water such as:  Trout Pond, Wolf Pond, Rich Lake, Perch Pond, Newcomb Lake, Henderson Lake, Lake Harris, Goodnow Flow, Catlain Lake and the famous historical great camps (now restored), Camp Santanoni on Newcomb Lake.  Even  Presidents came to Newcomb.  Theodore Roosevelt was holidaying in Tahawus in 1901 when he learned of President William McKinley's death.  Newcomb saw the unofficial inauguration of its new US President.
